This is a pendant and necklace set made from natural untreated angel skin coral, finely carved into rose shapes, with a solid 18K gold bail and clasp.
Natural color, untreated not dyed.
The pendant and necklace are re-made from vintage angel skin coral cabochons and beads. We created the pendant head with double looped solid 18K gold so that it stays comfortably on your chest.
About the earrings, the metal part is platinum 900, not K18 yellow gold, but if you wear it it doesn’t show. The color of the rose coral cabochons matches very well to the necklace.)
Carved coral jewelry was popular in Japan until the 1980’s.
Carved coral items were mostly made for Obidome (decorations for kimono belts).
But since Japanese coral has now been unavailable for decades, the coral sculptors have also disappeared. It is getting more and more difficult to find carved coral jewelry these days and the prices are rising.
Especially pieces that show the highest level of craftsmanship are most desired and expensive.

Please keep in mind that deep sea coral almost always has a few cracks, dimples, small holes and inclusions that usually don’t stand out.
Most deep sea coral has cracks, which come from the change in water pressure when the deep sea coral is harvested and pulled to the surface.
However it does not break easily, and it’s no problem for wearing it.
