This is a necklace made from three Japanese treasures: a Magatama bead made of Japanese jade from the Itoi river; beads of Japanese red coral; and an Akoya pearl.

Japanese jade (jadeite) Magatama have been crafted since prehistoric times. During the Kofun period (4th–6th century), they were exported to the Korean Peninsula as prestigious trade goods and symbols of power. Today, they are appreciated worldwide as one of Japan’s oldest cultural treasures.
After the 7th century Magatama disappeared from Japanese history.

Since the twentieth century Magatama (comma-shaped beads) have been recreated by contemporary artists.
While the collection of jade in the Itoi river is currently restricted, jade that washes ashore from the sea can be collected, and Magatama such as this one have been made by artists living near Itoigawa who acquired that jade.

The adjustable necklace cord is made of silk Kumihimo thread, made by an old kumihimo shop in Tokyo that has been in business for 140 years.
It can be adjusted between 72cm(28in) and 42cm(16.5in).

(The earrings in the photo is not included in the price.)
